Brief
"Upgrade the existing football club's: home and away changerooms, amenities, coach rooms, medical and trainer rooms and storage areas to be welcoming, comfortable, functional and flexible to allow female and junior clubs to co-exist."
Challenges & Solutions
One of the key challenges of this upgrade to the existing facilities was to work with a 70yr old building and its existing structure. The existing structural layout created obstacles and no clear open area to do pre-game drills. The solution was to remove almost all the existing timber posts where possible and insert new structural beams than spanned the width of the building. The posts that were not able to be moved were to be incorporated into the new layout. New high impact materials were specified for the use of the building with open plan spaces defined through colour of the materials. The plywood timber ceiling companied with clerestory windows provided needed light and warmth.
